Particles, grids, and the physics of calm UIs
A calm interface is not a still one — it is one whose motion obeys rules you can feel but never have to think about.
I have been playing with particle fields and grid systems as two ends of the same idea: structure you sense in the background while the content stays in the foreground. Give motion a little physics — weight, drag, a sense of settling — and the eye reads it as ambient rather than demanding.
Motion with manners
The trick is restraint. The moment the background asks for attention it stops being calm and starts being a distraction. Done right, the physics does the reassuring so the content never has to raise its voice.
